The Philippine National Police Human Rights Affairs Office launched a human rights mobile application on Monday, December 04, 2017.
PNP Human Rights Affairs Office (PNP-HRAO) Chief, Police Chief Superintendent Dennis A Siervo said that the "PNP Know Your Rights" application aims to make people aware of the Human Rights Advisories and Policies crafted by the PNP, including the contents of the new Miranda Warning Pocket Card with Anti-Torture Reminders.
“Once installed in a mobile device, the app can be accessed anytime by police personnel even without internet connectivity, most especially by field officers engaged in the intensified campaign of the PNP against criminality, corruption and illegal drugs. Thus, it equips PNP personnel with the right information and/or materials with which to advise citizens or persons placed under police custody of their rights under the law,” PCSupt Siervo said.
The app is helpful to both policemen and civilians. Civilians can also download the mobile application in their smart phones for easy access to human rights advisories and policies that provide information on their fundamental rights as citizens and basic information on police operational procedures and rules of engagement.
“The ‘PNP Know Your Rights Mobile Application’ is more than just a technology driven mechanism. It is our public affirmation of the PNP’s duty to respect, protect, and fulfill human rights” PCSupt Siervo added.
